5,3% is the expected growth in the games market in Spain until 2022

According to the results of the data shown in the 19th Global Entertainment and Media Survey, carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the Spanish games market is expected to grow approximately 5,3% by the year 2022. Currently, in the games sector, the Spain is the leader in Latin America and is 13th in the global ranking, with revenues of approximately US$1,5 billion.

Taking into account only smartphone games, we will have an increase from US$324 million (2017) to US$878 million in 2022. It is estimated that by 2022, the national gaming market will reach a level of approximately US$1,8 billion.

A study was also carried out to quantify the evolution of the global gaming market, reaching the point of comparing 15 different subdivisions of the sector in 53 countries. The result was that the global market is expected to reach US$2,4 trillion in 2022, which is a considerable growth compared to the revenue of US$1,9 trillion in 2017. According to PwC, the advertising areas digital and games, are the ones that will evolve the most until the year 2022 (the average for the annual increase is 12% and 15%, respectively).

The gaming market is very dynamic, as a new innovation appears every time, so even with these estimates, the reaction of the player audience and the emergence of new trends is still a mystery.

It is unknown how the game streaming technology will be received, Xbox will be the first of the consoles to make the service available through xCloud, Microsoft's game streaming service, which will be launched in October. Soon after will be the turn of Stadia, Google's console, which is scheduled to launch in November this year with a subscription of 9 dollars per month. Finally, next year, the PS5 will be released in conjunction with Sony's game streaming platform.
