Blizzard is using social media to find toxic Overwatch players

Recently, Blizzard announced that it will use social media to find toxic players of Overwatch, a first-person shooter. Game director Jeff Kaplan revealed in a new development update that Blizzard has begun "looking for incidents of toxic behavior".

Kaplan directly cited YouTube as the social network he is looking for these users on and says Blizzard is taking action on these players "before they are even reported," he said.

In addition, the game director also revealed three new features that were implemented in Overwatch with the aim of combating toxicity, which concern the permission of console players to report people, the ability to notify players when the user that was reported is banned and also about warnings for users that have already been reported.

According to Kaplan, since these measures were implemented, abusive chat conversations have seen a 17% drop and a 20% increase in player reports. In addition, Blizard is also looking at a way to penalize players who haven't improved their behavior after the temporary ban.

According to the director, a case from September 2017, could have been permanently banned from the competitive scene, had it received bans, in previous seasons.
