Steam will have less attractive discounts for players. In an update to its partner blog, the platform revealed new rules that directly involve game promotions and pricing.

A new rule prohibits the platform from offering discounts below 10% and above 90%. With this starting on March 28th, the changes make Steam stop offering certain really flashy discounts that were already known to the public.

Interval between promotions

It was also revealed that there will be a change in the interval between discounts offered on Steam from six to four weeks (28 days). So, from March 28th, the minimum interval of 28 days between the end of one discount and the beginning of another will start to apply.

In the official statement, it was informed that this interval applies to all promotions and discounts on Steam, with the exception of the four main promotions on the platform, namely Lunar New Year Sale, Holiday Sale, Spring Sale and End of Year Sale. .

Specific discount rules

It is possible to offer an introductory discount, but when this discount runs out, you will need to wait 28 days before any other discounts can be applied.
It is not possible to offer a discount on a product within 28 days of a price increase in any currency.
Discounts cannot be applied within 28 days of the end of your last discount, with the exception of seasonal events on Steam.
Seasonal event discounts cannot be applied for the first 28 days after a title is released, a launch discount ends, or a price increase in any currency.
It is not possible to change the price of a product that has a discount in effect or scheduled.
It is not possible to offer a product with a discount of more than 90% or less than 10%.
Personalized discounts cannot last longer than two weeks or less than one day.
