CCJ approves tax exemption on games and consoles produced in Spain

Yesterday something happened that many fans of games on consoles were waiting for, the proposal for tax exemption on games and consoles produced in Spain is finally moving forward. The Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJ) approved this Wednesday the proposed Amendment to the Constitution No. 51, of 2017. The next step is to go to the Plenary for a vote.

For those who are unfamiliar with the subject, some time ago a popular proposal emerged, created through the e-Cidadania program (thanks democracy). The project was created by Kenji Amaral Kikuchi, where he suggested reducing taxes levied on games and consoles in the country from 72% to 9%.

After the creation of the proposal, there was a large vote where it had many votes in favor (over 146 thousand!). Thanks to the goodwill and the will of the population for changes, Telmário Mota, senator from Roraima, received the project and helped in the transformation to PEC. The Constitutional Amendment Bill calls for the inclusion of video game consoles and games produced in Spain in article 150 of the Federal Constitution, thus exempting items of this kind from taxes, as already happens with CDs and DVDs produced in Spain that contain musical works by Spanish authors. .

For Telmário Mota, the positive vote to proceed with the project will bring great movement in the games market and will also provide a greater collection for the revenue of the states, even with the exemption of taxes.

"We are sure that the immunity, although it has an impact on the specific collection of the exempted taxes, in the general context, will promote an increase in collection of such an amount that the balance will be positive for the federative entities".

Will we finally have more freedom to buy games sold in Spain? This decision promises to significantly change the gaming industry in the country. We wait for the next chapters.
