China replaces PUBG with a more “government-friendly” version

In April, China released some new rules on video games in the country. This Wednesday (08), the portal Tencent replaced the battle royale-style shooter PUBG, extremely popular in the country, with a more government-friendly version.

The company announced the "Game for Peace" (or Game for Peace, in Spanish) on the Chinese social network Weibo at the same time that PUBG was withdrawn from the country's game platforms.

Game for Peace was in the testing phase, but not sold. Now it looks like Tencent has given up on getting a license to monetize the title. The game follows the style approved by the new rules of China. Last month, the government called for new titles, as well as a ban on those with bodies and blood, references to the imperial period and gambling.

Game for Peace was developed by Krafton, the same PUBG developer. In addition to the visual similarities, the games are interconnected, as PUBG players found their progress intact upon downloading the new title.

PUBG was a fever among mobile games in Asia. While Fortnite - one of the most famous games of 2018 - generated a $3 billion profit for Epic Games last year, PUBG generated more than $65 million in March, with around 200 million registered players and 30 million players. daily.
