      Epic Games receives $250 million strategic investment from Sony

      It was recently announced that Sony Corporation and Epic Games have entered into an investment deal. The Japanese company has agreed to make a strategic investment of US$250 million to acquire part of Epic Games with a minority stake. This contribution only confirms a relationship that was already close between the companies and that now intend to further increase the capacity and quality of game productions.

      The investment made by Sony in Epic Games will allow it to take advantage of part of the technologies between both companies. Sony Corporation President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida says:



      "Epic's powerful technology in areas such as graphics puts them at the forefront of game engine development with the Unreal Engine and other innovations. There is no better example of this than the game-changing entertainment experience, Fortnite. Through our investment, we will explore opportunities for additional collaboration with Epic to delight and add value to consumers and the industry at large, not just in gaming, but across the rapidly evolving digital entertainment landscape."

      The founder and CEO of Epic Games said:

      “Sony and Epic have built businesses at the intersection of creativity and technology, and we share a vision of real-time 3D social experiences, leading to a convergence of games, movies and music. more open and accessible to all consumers and content creators."
