Epic has developed an in-game marketplace where transactions are not subject to the 30% charges Apple places on transactions conducted through its platform. The move was a clear violation of Apple's terms of service, but Epic is arguing that the rules themselves are unfair and an example of Apple's monopolistic control over the distribution of apps on its platform.
The ongoing legal dispute won't see the inside of a courtroom until May next year and it could be years before the case is resolved. This will create a lot of annoyance for the nearly 116 million Fortnite players who own Apple devices, especially the 73 million players who only use Apple products to access the game, according to the BBC report.
