Fortnite officially arrives on the Google Play Store

Epic Games released Fortnite for Android 18 months ago, without using Google Play.

For iOS, the company made the game available on Apple's app store, for Android, Epic Games tried to use a separate installer that downloaded the game without using the Google app store.

Now Epic Games has decided to release the game on Google Play today. And the question remains, why change now? Epic Games initially did not agree with Google Play's terms regarding the stake that Google Play would take with the game on its store.

In addition, Epic Games has reinforced that it is a strong advocate of open operating systems, suggesting several times in the last decade that it prefers to use its own systems rather than submitting to rules imposed by other companies.

Now, however, something has changed.

According to Epic Games' "full statement" on the situation, Google's position with app stores, app downloads and everything else puts them at a disadvantage. Epic Games has one of the most popular games on the planet. Despite Fortnite's success, Epic Games' statement suggests that they cannot operate on Android without releasing the game on Google Play.

"We expect Google to review its policies and business in the near future," wrote an Epic Games representative, "so that all developers are free to enter and do business with customers on Android and the Play Store through open services, including of payment, which can compete on equal terms".

Now, you can download Fortnite directly from Google Play, the game is not yet compatible with older smartphones, but the latest Androids available on the market will certainly run the game smoothly.
