Norwegian teenager Emil Bergquist Pedersen, 16-year-old "Nyhrox", and Austrian David Wang, 17-year-old "aqua", became the first Fortnite World Cup winners, each taking a prize of US$. 1,5 million (R$ 5,6 million) for matches played at Arthur Ashe Stadium, in New York (USA), last Saturday afternoon (27).
Nyhrox and Aqua weren't favorites
Over the course of the six-game event, the young European duo quickly rose through the ranks, winning Games 4 and 5. In all, there were 50 teams playing six games. The ranking score took into account the placements and eliminations achieved in each round. Nyhrox and Aqua scored 51 points.
In Fortnite, players are dropped onto an island where they must search for weapons and other resources, while taking out other players and trying to stay alive.
Pre-tournament favorites were Williams "Zayt" Aubin of Canada and Rocco "Saf" Morales of the United States, who led most of the competition but lost the lead in the final game to the European teenagers.
Cloud9's Spaniards - Pedro "pfzin" Freitas and Nicolas "Nicks" Polonio - took 47th place, while the duo Caio "wisheydp" and Gustavo "Gustavox8" finished the tournament in 48th place.
"We knew it took a good game to win," said Nyhrox. "After our first victory, we said: let's win the next games."

Family of teen millionaires celebrate victory in Fortnite
Families of the teenagers flocked to the tennis stadium to participate in the outdoor festivities, and watch the duo's final inside the stadium, which will host the US Open in a few weeks. While the lower court and upper floor sections of the 23.000-seat stadium were in short supply among fans, Epic Games announced the capacity for last Saturday's final.
After the team's victory, the families of the winning duo celebrated the title. The new millionaires gathered with team personnel, friends and family before taking an Olympic tour of the hall, congratulated by the other 98 competitors.
After the celebration, the boys accessed their social media from their smartphones to see the reaction online. Each of them has so far gained over 10.000 Twitter followers.

For Aqua, who turned 17 last week, this was the best birthday present he could ever have.
No grand plans for fortune
When asked what they will do with the money, none of them had grandiose plans for their earnings.
"I'll probably save more," Nyhrox said. "[But] maybe a new PC?"
"Yeah, maybe a new PC," Aqua agreed.
