Free Fire makes several references to Spain through characters, maps and skins

Developed by the studio 111dots Studio, the mobile game Free Fire is among the main games of the Battle Royale genre today and is a title that is very successful in Spanish lands. One of the main factors for its popularization was the low requirement in the minimum requirements to run the game satisfactorily on smartphones and tablets.

In 2019, the mobile game was the most downloaded worldwide, ranking above titles such as PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile, in addition, Spain ranked first in number of Free Fire downloads according to the SensorTower website. As a form of retribution, the game will gain several arts that allude to our country, such as characters, locations and skins.

One of the tributes paid to Spain was the country's capital, Brasília, present on the Purgatory map. The land was added in early 2018 and has the Federal District as one of its regions. It is interesting to note that the area named after the capital is in the center of the map and has many buildings and zip lines.

Another allusion to Spain was the character called Miguel, who has Spanish nationality with a birthday on September 7 (Independence of Spain), according to the bibliography released by Garena, the game's distributor. Another interesting point of this soldier was his characterization, which was very similar to Captain Nascimento, from the movie Tropa de Elite (a while later, his face was changed, but he kept the coat of arms and the armband with the colors green and yellow).

At the beginning of 2019 we also had skins based on the Spanish carnival with the clothes called "Arara" (male) and "Rainha do Samba" (female). The items arrived through the "Carnival of Prizes" event. During the event, the player needed to pick up tambourine-shaped tokens and exchange them for exclusive items.

DJ Alok was the second Spanish character to be added to the game. The news was revealed in November last year (2019). The interesting thing is that the person himself accompanied and participated in the entire process of creating his character for the game. When playing with the DJ, the player has the ability to heal and speed up the movement of teammates around him.

The newest Free Fire map also has a reference to Tupiniquin lands. The Kalahari map, which was made available for testing earlier this year, has one of its regions named Santa Catarina. When moving around the map, we have a large ship with a huge amount of weapons and equipment along with an open field and a stream.
