Google Confirms Everything Stadia Won't Have at Launch

Google Confirms Everything Stadia Won't Have at Launch

The launch of Google's Stadia console is just around the corner, and company representatives answered a few questions during an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit.

The thread on Reddit largely served to reinforce what had already been said at Google's GDC 2019 press conference. The vast majority of the console's features didn't arrive until next year instead of November 19, which is the video game's release date. Here's a summary of what won't be available at the launch of Stadia:

Stream Connect, State Share e Crowd Play, the key features that allow players to join each other's games and make Stadia more than a glorified remote game. The Stadia Product Director says:

"I expect the first game with Stream Connect to be released by the end of the year. Games that support State Share and Crowd Play will be released next year."

Stadia achievement system. The service will still record when you hit various milestones in games, but you won't actually receive notifications or display them anywhere until "shortly after launch".

The ability to use existing Chromecast Ultra to play games. At launch, only the Chromecast Ultra that ships with Stadia controllers will have the firmware needed to stream games up to date.

family sharing. While parents can control what their kids can access on their accounts, multiple people in the same household won't be able to share games on the service just yet.

Buddy Passes. Founders Editions of Stadia should come with "Friend Passes" so people can give a friend a three-month Stadia subscription to play with them, but these passes will ship a few weeks after launch (in approximately 2 weeks) .

The Stadia controller, at least for some people. Everyone who pre-orders Stadia will receive their codes to enter the service starting November 19 and will be able to play on their smartphones or in the Chrome browser on the desktop with keyboard and mouse. However, packages that contain the controls and Chromecast will be staggered shipping, where they will be shipped in the order the orders were received.

It was also said that at the launch of Google Stadia users will have 12 games available to play. Among the titles are Red Dead Redemption II and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
