GTA 6 is coming: Rockstar finally announces that game is in development

Finally GTA 6 has its development officially confirmed by Rockstar Games, the studio responsible for the popular franchise. The announcement comes on the eve of the launch of GTA 5 and GTA Online for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, scheduled for March 15th.

Rockstar Games says it is "pleased to confirm that active development on the next title in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway." It is believed that the long delay for the release of GTA 6 is due to the great popularity of GTA 5 and its online version. To give you an idea, Grand Theft Auto V was originally released in 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360, over 8 years ago.

To compare how long it took to release a sequel to Grand Theft Auto, GTA 5 was released in 2013, "only" five years after GTA 4 debuted (2008). According to Rockstar Games, GTA 6 will have "new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance updates, HDR and ray tracing options... immersive, platform-specific features such as advanced haptic feedback and more."

    Launch and availability

There is still no exact date for the release of GTA 6, nor if the game will actually have that name. The only certainty we can have now is about the release of GTA 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
