Released nearly a decade ago, Guild Wars 2 will unexpectedly gain visual, performance and DirectX11 support improvements. ArenaNet, the game's developer, will release an open beta version of the game on September 21, 2021.
On the Guild Wars 2 blog, ArenaNet Senior Programmer James Fulop says that this update took a long time to make and shouldn't help performance much. However, according to James, the new implementations should open up a world of graphical possibilities for the future.
Guild Wars 2 Will Get DirectX11 Support, Almost 1 Decade Later
"Customer performance is a priority for us and we want everyone to be able to play at the highest frame rate possible. We identified that sometimes the game could stop waiting for the rendering job to complete. Guild Wars 2 has been live for nine years and the implementation of some DirectX11 dependent features can help the game stay beautiful over time."
DirectX11 support
DX11 isn't new, but James says its stability and support led the team to opt for this version as it features compatibility with older operating systems. According to the information released, ArenaNet intends to eventually discontinue support for DirectX9, currently used in Guild Wars 2.
"One of the philosophies I had when building this was to make the DirectX11 renderer equal to DirectX9. If I were making changes to both at the same time, there would be no truth to how things should look."
