Sony in partnership with studio Guerrilla Games are planning to release the game Horizon Forbidden West next year, 2021. In a recent video about the game, director Mathijs de Jonge said he intends to release the title in 2021. That is, unfortunately we will not have Forbidden West at the PS5 launch in late 2020.
Aside from the release date issue, the new Horizon Forbidden West video is full of details. According to Mathijs, it refers to a "mysterious new frontier" and runs from Utah to the Pacific Ocean. In Horizon Zero Daw, players were able to see scenes from post-apocalypse Utah, Colorado and then Montana with the Frozen Wilds expansion.
If you watch the debut trailer closely, you'll notice that there's the Golden Gate Bridge and other San Francisco tourist sites like the Transamerica Pyramid and the Ferry Building. Mathijs said that the new game's map will be "a little bigger", however, thanks to the PlayStation 5's SSD technology, "there are virtually no loading screens". This also includes the time it takes to start the game or when restarting from a save point or when traveling fast.
The artificial intelligence Hephaestus has created cybernetic animals that roam the world of Horizon, making the challenges players face get bigger and bigger. According to Mathijs, there will be dozens of new machines that will appear in Forbidden West. As in the previous title, you will have to digitize the creatures and study them to know the best way to enter a combat with them.
The only upside to the delay for Horizon Forbidden West is the fact that players will be able to play the original game when it arrives on PC soon. This will likely make the franchise's audience increase even more.
