How to get Half-Life items in Death Stranding (PC)

Hideo Kojima's game, Death Stranding, is no longer only on the Playstation 4 console, just over a week ago the game arrived on PC by 505 Games. Among the novelties in the game are the support for ultrawide screen, the "very hard" mode (very difficult) and the items in honor of the Half-life and Portal franchise, developed by Valve. To get the items, you'll need to complete quests in the game, which makes the process of getting them more fun than just getting them effortlessly.

To make your life easier, we made a guide showing how to get each of the Half-life and Portal items:

The first email: chapter 2 | Reward: Gordon's Glasses

After returning from the Wind Farm (wind power plants) in Chapter 2, Sam will receive an email from Benjamin H marked with a 位 symbol. Although you know the person is in charge of the Distribution Center west of Capital Knot City, it is clear that something is wrong with the email. In the email Benjamin says that you need to go north of the distribution center to locate a cargo that is lost in the river.

To find the lost cargo, just follow the river and you'll find a large cargo, which as you'll notice, is a Companion Cube from the Portal series. After collecting the cargo, return to the center and get your reward, which will be Gordon Freeman's glasses from the Half-Life series. The glasses are purely cosmetic, they don't give you any advantage in the game.

The second email: chapter 3 | Reward: The Valve

In chapter 3 you'll reach the second map of the game, where you'll need to carry out various tasks given by the head of Lake Knot City's director. After making the deliveries, in the northeast region of the map, passing through the Engineer, the Craftsman and the Craftsman, Sam will receive another mysterious email with the 位 symbol. The sender of the email is a representative of the Lake Knot City director.

The mission given in the email is to find another companion cube that is hidden in a remote bunker on Peter Englert's estate, located west of Lake Knot City. When you get there, notice the towers next to the water that are next to a building, in this location you will find the cube. Remember this location, as in another you will receive a strange request to deliver pizzas to Peter Englert.

When you deliver the cube to Lake Knot City, you will receive Valve's iconic valve.

The third email: chapter 3 | Reward: The Gravity Glove (Gravity Glove)

Still in Chapter 3, as you follow the missions, you will arrive at a Weather Station west of Lake Knot City's South Distribution Center. There the main order will be a delivery to Timefall Farm, located to the south, passing through the wheat fields. After completing transporting the cargo, return to the distribution center. Upon arriving at the center, Sam will receive a new mysterious email where he is told that he has to find another cube that this time has been stolen by a group of MULEs northwest of Lake Knot City's South Distribution Center.

When you arrive at the MULEs' camp, you'll need to put some soldiers to sleep, retrieve their cargo in their storage structure, and head back to the distribution center. When you arrive at Lake Knot City South Distribution Center and deliver the cube, you will earn the Gravity Glove. As in Half-Life: Alyx, Sam will be able to use the glove to attract objects that are a few meters away (using energy from his suit).

The fourth email: chapter 3 | Reward: The 位 truck

After completing several exhausting missions for the Scrapsmith, there will be a time when Sam will receive another email, asking you to retrieve another lost cube that is in an abandoned factory located northeast of the Craftsman. However, when heading to this area, be prepared to face BTs, including some large and difficult ones to deal with. The best way to get the cube in this situation is to be patient and stealthily advance into BT territory.

After getting the cube, return as carefully as before and head to the South Lake Knot Distribution Center, where you will receive a special truck with the Half-Life symbol.

The Fifth Email: Chapter 8 | Reward: Headcrab

After you receive the fourth mystery email, it will take a while for you to receive another one. Only in Chapter 8 of Death Stranding, when you arrive at Heartman's quarters and perform the delivery missions for the geologist, paleontologist, and scientist Evo-Devo, will Sam receive another email. After Sam connects the Paleontologist to the network, you'll receive an email asking you to retrieve another cube in the mountains south of the Heartman's lab.

The path to the cube has an area with BTs, so be prepared and be careful on the way, trying to walk stealthily. Upon completing the cube delivery, you will earn a Headcrab Hat. This item is not just cosmetic, it will restore Sam's lost stamina while hiking. To regain stamina, the hat will use blood bags and when there aren't any, it will suck Sam's blood.

The sixth and final email: chapter 15 | Reward: The Revelation and Strider Hologram from Half-Life: Alyx

Valve's final crossover mission in Death Stranding takes place after you've completed the game's story. Upon reaching chapter 15, you can freely explore the deliveries in the game and complete those that are pending. At this time, the real Benjamin Hancock will send you an email telling you about the identity of the mysterious imposter who was sending you messages. Sam will be asked to go to the Middle Knot City Crater, which is next to the Craftsman.

As you approach the location, a new location will appear on the map that was not present in the PS4 version of the game. Opposite the crater, the tar belt is a small ruin with many BTs, including large red variants. After picking up the cube, you'll need to take it to the incinerator station, which is west of your current location.

After cremating the cube, Sam will receive a message from the imposter, where his true identity will be revealed and the logic behind all the missions done. I won't say who it is, but it's something fun and it fits very well in the world of Death Stranding. The last reward you'll earn is the Strider Hologram from Half-Life: Alyx.
