Microsoft is shutting down Mixer and partnering with Facebook Gaming

Microsoft recently announced that it will shut down its Mixer streaming service on July 22. In addition, it was revealed that the partners that the platform had will be transferred to Facebook Gaming. That is, in a month the partners and streamers will be transferred to Facebook Gaming and in a month the platform will cease to exist.

Through various partnerships and agreements, Microsoft struggled to make Mixer scale enough to complete with Twitch, YouTube Gaming and even Facebook Gaming, but it wasn't enough. Microsoft's gaming division head Phil Spencer says:

"We started way back in terms of where Mixer's monthly active viewers compared to some of the big players. I think the Mixer community will really benefit from the broad audience that Facebook has through its properties and ability to reach players in a very seamless way through the social platform that Facebook has."

Microsoft has struck a deal with Facebook to move its audience of viewers and streamers from Mexer to Facebook Gaming in the coming weeks. On July 22nd, all Mixer websites and apps will automatically redirect to Facebook Gaming. All platform partners will automatically become Facebook Gaming partners, and any streamer using the Mixer monetization program will receive eligibility for the Facebook Level Up program.

It was also said that all Mixer users who have outstanding balances, channel subscriptions or a Mixer Pro subscription will receive credit on Xbox gift cards.
