Minecraft reaches 1 trillion views on YouTube

Minecraft reaches 1 trillion views on YouTube

Minecraft already boasts the best-selling game title in history, along with Grand Theft Auto V, PUBG and Red Dead Redemption 2. Now the game has reached another milestone, that of more than 1 trillion views on YouTube.

Originally released in 2011, Minecraft was developed by Mojang. Initially the game was released for PC (Windows, OS X and Linux), but in the same year the title debuted on Android and iOS mobile platforms. A year later, the game came out for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (PS3). However, it didn't stop there, and Minecraft won ports for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. The success was so great that Minecraft was even released for Windows Phone, Nintendo 3DS, PS Vita, Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

    Minecraft no YouTube

According to YouTube, there are now over 35 active channels for creating content with Minecraft videos. These channels are spread across 150 countries. In addition, there is a huge player base totaling 140 million across PC, mobile and console platforms.

Popularity continued to grow despite the purchase of his studio.

Even after Microsoft's 2014 purchase of the Mojang studio, Minecraft continued to grow. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said at the time:

"Minecraft is more than a great game franchise - it's an open world platform, driven by a vibrant community we care about deeply and rich in new opportunities for that community and for Microsoft."

    Content Creation with Minecraft

Because Minecraft lets you build anything with blocks that look like Lego bricks, the game's community of players creates all kinds of worlds and videos. An example of this was a video called "Fallen Kingdon", created by CaptainSparklez and viewed 145 million times, where a Minecraft-inspired riff was made using the song Viva La Vida by Coldplay.

Another famous video was from creator Dream, who blasted his way to the game's "end" in under 23 minutes. His broadcast has been viewed 29,6 million times. Content creators usually earn money from their videos, either through sponsorships or paid ads (via deals), and it can also be through sharing a percentage of ad revenue with YouTube (video monetization offered).
