Minecraft turns ten and sells over 176 million units

Completing ten years on the market in 2019, the game Minecraft reached a new level: it became the best-selling game of all time. Microsoft and Mojang recently revealed that the title has sold over 176 million units since launch.

This number corresponds to sales on all platforms where the game was made available. The PC version, for example, sold over 30 million units alone.

Minecraft's only direct competitor is the classic Tetris. The latter is estimated to be the best-selling game of all time, but it is impossible to calculate how many units have been sold over time. Thus, Minecraft took the lead.

    About the game

Even though it is a classic game, there are still people who have never played Minecraft. No problem! We'll tell you how it works.

Basically it's a free game: there are no rules, nor a single way to play. Players can choose what they want to do, whether it's building or exploring the world. You can play with friends and create your own rules too.

In Minecraft players can create whatever they want.

Even so, there is the possibility of opting for game modes. They are Creative Mode, where players are given unlimited resources to build whatever they want, and Survival Mode, where, as the mode itself says, the player needs to mine their resources, build their own house and... survive!

Taking advantage of the tenth anniversary, Microsoft announced a novelty for Minecraft fans: Minecraft Earth. Following the model of Pokémon Go, the game will merge virtual environments with the real world through augmented reality.

There is no prediction of when the launch will be, but what is known is that the game will be available for free for Android and iOS until the end of 2019.
