Naughty Dog confirms The Last of Us 2 won't have multiplayer

With The Last of Us: Part II approaching and the recent reveal of footage from the game, there was a somewhat disheartening reveal. The game will not have multiplayer like the original The Last of Us.

According to USgamer, Game Designer Emilia Schatz said:

      We're focusing on a single-player experience, so we're just creating a single-player game.

After the State of Play event, promoted by Sony, USgamer was there and managed to confirm the information, receiving the answer:

Correct, it's a single player game

      • Minimum and recommended requirements to run Fortnite on PC in 2022
      • Minimum requirements to play PUBG on PC
The information was also supported by Neil Druckmann, Cive-President of the Naughty Dog studio, responsible for the development of The Last of Us. During an interview with The Telegraph he says:

"It's so ambitious that we decided to make it single player. There's no multiplayer in The Last of Us Part 2. I wanted to take advantage of all the resources to make this the biggest game we've ever made."

While the claims lead one to believe that The Last of Us 2 really is, it's strange to hear this after Anthony Newman, the game's co-director, stated during E3 2018:

Multiplayer is coming back. We won't talk about details of the form we've taken just yet, but we can confirm that there will be multiplayer.

Probably throughout the development of the new game, unfortunately the team decided to abort the idea of multiplayer.
