Nintendo buys Luigi's Mansion developer studio

Nintendo made an interesting move to continue counting on good exclusives, by acquiring the studio Next Level Games, responsible for Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Strikers and a series of other titles.

The Canadian company will have March 1 as the deadline to enter into an agreement and close the contract with the Japanese giant. Nintendo will now own 100% of the studio, taking full control over Next Level titles. Despite having participated in the development of the first titles of Luigi's Mansion, the Canadians had a greater responsibility only in the third game, when they were directly responsible.

Next Level Games, which was founded in 2002, in addition to working in collaboration with Nintendo, has also teamed up with other developers to deliver titles from various franchises. Activision and SEGA are some of the big names the company has worked with, delivering the titles Transformers: Cybertron Adventures (Activision) and Captain America: Super Soldier (SEGA).

Check out an official statement about the negotiation.

"The acquisition will be completed on March 01, 2021, pending satisfaction of all relevant terms and conditions, including investor approval, Canadian regulatory approval and other customary conditions."

Nintendo claims that the acquisition means the ability to ensure the availability of resources for Next Level Games, including development experience. In addition, Big N also believes that it will be possible to quickly facilitate early improvement in development and quality, allowing for easy, close communication with the Nintendo development team.

Reggie Fils-Aime, the former president of Nintendo of America, revealed in an episode of his podcast called Talking Games With Reggie & Howard that he once met with Kanye West to discuss a possible partnership. During an E3, the musician decided to show up at the Nintendo booth, talked for a while with Shigeru Miyamoto and then asked for a meeting with Reggie.

In his California office, Kanye West told Reggie that he was interested in getting into gaming and would like to work with Nintendo. At the time, the then president of Nintendo of America had to refuse the proposal, as Big N was developing many projects. Reggie politely declined a partnership with West and mentioned the high demands of Nintendo, claiming that perhaps the musician would not like the pressure so much, but West replied that it was exactly for this reason that he wanted to work with the developer, to have the same quality. of your games.

Reggie Fils-Aime stated that Kanye West seemed very passionate about the subject, even though the idea was never put into practice.
