October Xbox One Update Improves Parental Controls and Allows Per-App Adjustments

In the October update, made available by Microsoft, for its console, Xbox One, parental controls were improved, providing more options for restrictions and how they will be carried out. With this update, it is now possible to limit usage time per application or game. In addition to this new function, the scope of control was also extended to the PC (with Windows 10 operating system) or smartphone with Android OS with the Microsoft launcher app.

Before this update, parents already had the possibility to control the time of use of the console by children, but the difference is that now the control will be defined by application. That way, the child can, for example, play Minecraft for 1h and at the same time have 2h to watch animations (cartoons) on the Netflix streaming service. You will be able to set such limits for any account linked to the Microsoft family group.

It is interesting to note that as the time limits imposed by parents on the apps apply not only to the console, but to Windows 10 and Android, it will be useless for your children to try to change devices in an attempt to gain more usage time, because time will continue to be in contact as if they were using the same device (that's the power of the cloud).

      • Minimum and recommended requirements to run Fortnite on PC in 2022
      • Minimum requirements to play PUBG on PC
This feature will be very useful for parents, as children are increasingly stuck with tablets, cell phones and video games, failing to eat properly, play outside, interact with other people, among other social activities. In other words, using a tool like this can make the child "wake up" and start looking at other things, making the most of life.

Remembering that if the child tries to download an application or download on the phone or tablet, it is possible to activate parental controls in the Play Store (Android app store), which blocks downloads or purchases based on their maturity level. It is possible to define which content will be accessed, for which devices restrictions will be applied and an authentication (password) to perform some action.
