PlayStation Spartacus: it will be a service to compete with Xbox Game Pass

Given the success of Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass, Sony seems to be starting to "pull strings" to launch a game subscription service similar to its arch-rivals. Although it seems late, the Bloomberg website says that people familiar with the company's planning confirm the existence of a project that will result in the creation of this system, which includes documents that already suggest the beginning of activities.

Jason Schreier of Bloomberg posted on Twitter saying:

"Sony is planning a new subscription service, codenamed Spartacus, for Xbox Game Pass. It is being introduced as a three-tier service that will merge PlayStation Now with PlayStation Plus. PS1 / PSP."

SCOOP: Sony is planning a new subscription service, code-named Spartacus, to take on Xbox Game Pass. It's being pitched as a three-tier service that will merge PlayStation Now with PlayStation Plus. Highest tier could include PS1/PS2/PSP games https://t.co/rz5tC3ExcR

Identified as Spartacus, the new gaming service being developed for PlayStation consoles will have a monthly access fee and a catalog of modern and classic titles. Subscription is believed to be available to PS4 and PlayStation 5 users.

    How it will work

According to information obtained by Bloomberg, the new PlayStation gaming service will unify two subscription plans currently offered by Sony, PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. When reviewing some documents, it is said that the PlayStation Plus brand will be maintained and PlayStation Now will be discontinued.

    Sober on PlayStation Plus

PlayStation Plus is a subscription required to play titles in online multiplayer. There are still other benefits as well, such as the offer of free titles every month.

    Sobre a PlayStation Now

A service created to stream and download older games, PlayStation Now is a way to offer backwards compatibility for games digitally. Example: PS3 and PS2 games can be downloaded to play on PlayStation 4 and PS5. It is possible to use the platform on "non-PlayStation" devices, but the player must have a DualShock 3, DualShock 4 or DualSense controller.
