The Pokemon Company recently announced a new title called Pokemon Unite. Developed in partnership with Tencent, it is a multiplayer game that pits a team of 5 players against each other.
If you've ever played a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game like League of Legends or Dota 2, Pokemon Unite might look familiar. However, instead of choosing a hero or champion, the player will use a Pokemon at the beginning of a match. As the battle progresses, the user will unlock new abilities for this Pokemon.
A year ago, Tencent and The Pokemon Company announced a partnership. Tencent's TiMi Studios is developing Pokemon Unite. However, the studio is best known in the West for developing Call of Duty: Mobile.
Launch and availability
Pokemon Unite will be free to play and available for Nintendo Switch platforms and mobile devices such as smartphones. Something interesting to note is that what will have crossplay, that is, Nintendo console players will be able to play online matches with Android and iOS mobile users.
It is not yet known when Pokemon Unite will be released, but it is believed that by the end of the year its debut will happen.
