Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley hosted a live stream today via thegameawards YouTube channel, showing us first-hand the Playstation 5 live controller, the DualSense. He even compared it side by side with its predecessor, the PS4's DualShock 4, and it seems that the impressions were very positive!
When Geoff shows the current-gen and next-gen controls, we see that the DualSense is fuller and more elongated in the region where the hands hold it. According to the presenter, the PS5 controller is slightly heavier than the DualShock 4, but it is such a small difference that in practice it means nothing. In addition, it was said that the new controller developed by Sony gives the feeling of a more robust product, giving a good feeling when holding it and feeling a balance in weight.
When seen from afar, Geoff says that it may look like an ordinary controller, but according to him the adaptive triggers on the R2 and L2 buttons added to the haptic feedback give an immersion in the game like he's never seen before. It is possible to feel the pressure of an arch when pulling it and at the same time feel the influence of the textures of the scenery where it is, for example, the contact with the sand.
Another thing that was noticed by Geoff was that the DualSense controller's speakers interact more with what's going on in the game, there being a harmony between the events of the game and the sounds generated. Adding this to the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers we will undoubtedly have a great level of immersion in the games. In addition, to complete, we still have the tempest engine technology, which promises to give a more immersive sound through the use of headphones.
