PS5 is dismantled live by Sony

This morning Sony posted a video on the official Playstation channel showing us their next generation console, the PS5, inside and out in detail. The employee simply disassembled the Playstation 5 entirely, showing us every piece of hardware used in the video game.

PS5 has exterior design and hardware displayed in every detail

Yasuhiro Ootori, from Sony Interactive Entertainment's mechanical design and hardware design department, started the video by showing us the PS5 from the outside, starting with its dimensions (104mm wide, 390mm high and 260mm deep). Next, the product designer shows us the connections on the front (USB A and USB-C) and back (2 USB type A 3.1, 1 LAN port, 1 HDMI and the power connector) of the console. Next, Yasuhiro shows us the locations of the slots for exhausting the heat generated by the Playstation 5.

After the presentation of the PS5 in the vertical position, Yasuhiro shows us how to remove the black base and place it on the side of the console so that the video game is in a horizontal position. Right after the procedure, the Sony employee shows us how to open the Playstation 5's side covers with our hands (without the use of tools) to have a view of the entire interior of the video game. The designer then starts to show the internal air inlets and outlets that work together with a 120mm diameter and 45mm thick cooler.

The cooler mentioned above has two vents for airflow, crossing from the left side to the right side of the inside of the PS5. Right next to it, there is a place where users can use an M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD to expand the console's storage capacity (the 825GB of flash memory is soldered to the Playstation 5's motherboard).

PS5 will use liquid metal cooling according to patent

For cooling, the Playstation 5 has a liquid metal cooling system that works together with a huge heatsink, where there are several blocks interconnected by copper fins. Adding this to the air cooling, the PS5 seems to confirm reports that even after hours of gaming, the console operates silently.
