The game's developers announced the free trial and offer via YouTube at "PUBG Free Weekend" and quickly the sub-30 second video gained over 3 million views in just a few minutes.

The announcement was so sudden that there was no formal press release, only on launch day.

The YouTube video description reads: "#PlayApartTogether with PUBG and Steam! From June 4th to June 8th, PUBG is free to play and 50% off."

"Play Apart Together" is a campaign that many gaming giants have supported amid the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.

Ubisoft kicked off the cause last April, distributing Rayman Legends first, followed by their famous Assassin's Creed franchise series.

Other game publishers followed suit, covering the gaming community with free game titles here and there.

Consequently, the Play Apart Together campaign was led by the World Health Organization (WHO), with more than 60 gaming companies participating, including Activision, Microsoft and Sega - to name a few.

Battle Royale game title is ready to be played freely; All players need to login to Steam, search for the game, click "Play Game" and let it install. No purchase required or other microtransactions required.

PUBG's "Play Apart Together" started yesterday, June 4th at 17:00 UTC and will end on June 8th at 17:00 UTC, as per its official announcement.

Everything in the game will be accessible, including the recently released Ranked Mode, except the in-game store for those who don't already own the game.

The player will even be able to play the "revised version of the Vikendi map". The overhaul comes with the ability to hop on trains - using it as a form of transport. One of the trains - Dinoland-themed - also sported a prettier look.
