PUBG was largely responsible for the explosion of battle royale in the video game industry. The game's success has seen several companies, larger and smaller, jump on the bandwagon by developing their own titles in the genre. While different games, with their own characteristics like Fortnite, appeared, it is also true that some of these titles hit the market as very similar options with what the players already knew.
The similarity of some titles is so great that it bothers PUBG developers, which is happening now. Krafton Inc., responsible for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, decided to accuse Garena of plagiarism due to the Free Fire game. Additionally, Krafton Inc. also sued Apple and Google, which offer the game in their stores.

Krafton accuses Garena of plagiarism
When entering the process in the los angeles federal court, Krafton claimed that Garena copied many elements and features from PUBG in the development of Free Fire. The game's general structure, equipment and settings were some of the examples of plagiarism cited by Krafton, who claims that the IP copyright was not respected by Garena.
In 2017, Krafton had made a official complaint in singapore, country of Garena, with the process being resolved without including any license for the Free Fire developer. However, in the last months of 2021, Garena launched Free Fire Max worldwide, re-infringing IP copyright.
After presenting a document that indicates several copies in Free Fire, Krafton asks for $150 in damages, as well as holding Apple and Google accountable, claiming the companies earned hundreds of millions of dollars in sales on a global scale.
