    Sea of Thieves will have Battle Pass in 2021, see other changes to come

    Rare, the developer of Sea of Thieves, has announced that its pirate game will undergo major changes in 2021. In an approximately nine-minute video, the company confirms that the game will move to a seasonal updates model, with the first one released in January.

    Each of these seasons will last approximately three months, and in an original way will kick off the "seasons" with new types of experiences, systems and gameplay. The first season that will be released early next year will be called "Merchant Alliance Voyage", and during the game players will need to look for clues about the whereabouts of a sunken ship full of treasures.

    A novelty for these seasons is that they will bring with them a new Battle Pass system, which basically consists of two versions; the free one that will have more than 100 levels filled with new items to equip your pirate and your ship, and the paid mode called Plunder Pass, which will give players even more exclusive items and other perks. The price of this paid mode has not yet been disclosed.

    The announcement about this update starts from the five minutes of the video, when Mike Chapman, creative director of Sea of Thieves, says;

    "Also, over the course of the three months, there will be regular and live events, hundreds of new rewards to earn and play, along with patch updates and ongoing rewards."

    Finally, Joe Neate, executive producer of the game, said that the Arena mode will not receive new updates, because the vast majority of players use only the Adventure mode. Because of this, Rare decided to stop updating and evolving the Arena, but it will continue to be part of the game.
