Aside from the title Uncharted: Fortune Hunter, a mobile game, Sony doesn't do much with its exclusives, but that's about to change. According to Eurogamer, it has been reported that Sony is hiring an executive from PlayStation Studios with a focus on launching the vast "most popular franchises" of the video game to smartphones.
According to Eurogamer, the company already has a mobile publishing publisher called PlayStation Mobile, responsible for launching apps such as PlayStation, PS Remote Play, the endless-runner Run Sackboy! Run!, AR for God of War and various PS4 games (for PlayLink) like Supermassive Hidden Agenda and Flavorworks Erica. Despite the small number of mobile games, Sony struggled to create an Xperie Play, a smartphone that was ahead of its time, having physical buttons to play by swiping up. The name PlayStation mobile is best remembered when associated with PC ports like Horizon Zero Dawn.
It's not hard to think of why Sony would pursue mobile games. In doing so, the company would take the PlayStation brand to a much wider audience, as well as make a profit from in-app purchases. However, the challenge lies in adapting games to mobile without losing what makes them special on console.
Mobile games are big business
We are living in an era of multiplatform games where mobile games are growing more and more and have a considerable influence on companies' revenue. An example of this are smartphone games such as the Asus ROG Phone 5, and titles such as Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile, Genshin Impact, Roblox, Pokemon Go, Free Fire, Candy Crush, Rose of Kingdoms.
