On Tuesday of this week, the website LetsGoDigital published a revealing news about an unknown electronic device from Sony, which had its patent registered in Spain. In the patent there was only one image, which is not possible to know exactly if it is a video game or not. However, shortly afterwards the website team managed to obtain more photos of the patent, where it apparently looked like a console looking at it from other angles.
After this discovery, there were many rumors on the internet about the device being the future console of the Japanese game developer. However, Matthew Stott, the company's game developer, made a publication on the social network Twitter stating that the patent image would be a PS5 Development Kit, where Sony creates several versions until reaching the final format.
Shortly after Matthew's tweet was published, the message was deleted (perhaps at Sony's request). Matthew, according to his LinkedIn profile, has worked at Codemasters for over 12 years and is a racing game developer. Keeping that in mind, it's likely that the game development company could have access to the PS5 dev kit with the console's launch getting closer and closer.
Several people thought the design was terrible and consequently were happy to know that it is probably a Dev Kit. But if that's the case, what would the final console design look like? Because of this curiosity, the website LetsGoDigital decided to render several products based on the registered patent to obtain a better image of what the final version would be.
Some people believe that this device doesn't look like a Dev Kit, as previous Sony development kits had a boring rectangular design. What would be the reason for the company to develop a V-shaped prototype? Anyway, this is just speculation and probably the Playstation 5 design will change many times yet.
