According to the Nikkei Asian Review website, Sony has a factory in Tokyo, Japan, capable of assembling a working Playstation 4 in just 30 seconds. Through a 30 meter assembly line with 32 Mitsubishi robots, the Kisarazu factory is wholly owned by Sony and has operated since the launch of the PS1 (1994). Currently there are only 4 workers inside the factory, where two of them put the motherboards at the beginning of the assembly line while the other two are in the product packaging part, the rest is fully automated.
As you can see, the machines do practically everything that has to be done to assemble the Playstation 4. The robots are capable of attaching wires, tapes and other flexible parts to the console. The employees' job is just to put the boards on the production line and pack the video games that are ready.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review website:
"Twenty-six of the 32 robots at the Kisarazu plant are dedicated to the task, deftly handling materials that most robots would find too demanding."
It is not yet known if the manufacturing method used to assemble the PS4 will also be reproduced for the Playstation 5, but it is believed that it will when analyzing the robots' ability. Anyway, Sony also came to announce that "is still investing heavily" in Playstation 4 and the robots will continue for a while with the function of manufacturing the console.
Starting this year, Sony will manufacture consoles for the current generation and the next generation. That is, the following video game models will be manufactured: PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition.
