This week Sony released for everyone the update that allows the use of SSDs in the PS5 expansion slot. With that, the Japanese console developer also revealed an SSD of its own that was developed by its subsidiary Nextorage. This is an M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD, as are several manufacturers that have PlayStation 5 compatible drives.
The Nextorage NEM-PA, developed for the PS5, has the option of 1TB and 2TB and its performance leaves nothing to be desired. According to the company, the 2TB model has sequential read/write transfer speeds of 7.300 Mbps and 6.900 Mbps, respectively. In random read and write, the SSD reaches 1 million IOPS. Also, for caching purposes, the NEM-PA has 2GB of DDR4 RAM.
SSDs come with aluminum heatsink
Nextorage SSDs come with an aluminum heatsink, thus increasing the performance of the drive. It's strange to see Sony marketing its SSD under the Nextorage brand instead of using its own, as the company is better known than Nextorage.
