Steam Link is the new Steam application, created by the producer Valve and aimed at streaming games for mobile devices. Players will be able to stream their Steam games from PC or Mac over the Internet to their smartphones, allowing them to play all games from their personal collection on the Steam store. Tablets, iPads and even Apple TV are supported.
The launch is scheduled for the beginning of the week of May 21st, with Android support expected to offer it in beta. Soon, the streaming app will be able to receive a second app called Steam Video, which works in the same way, but is aimed at movies and series purchased from the Steam Store, which can be streamed on mobile devices.
For this to work, however, you will need to be connected to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network or wired Internet. When online, you must connect the cell phone to the computer, remembering that both the cell phone and the PC must be connected to the same Internet network.
As for the controls, players will be able to use an official Valve Steam Controller that can be controlled by the device's screen, iOS controls compatible with MFi and a few more that were not detailed by the company. It may be possible to use the devices' touch controls, but it's not known yet.
For a while, Steam offered the app as a service, such as support for Steam Link set-top boxes and Samsung Smart TVs. However, this is the first time that the application serves as mobile streaming. The second app, Steam Video, should arrive later this season, also allowing users to download videos offline so they can watch whenever they want. More information to be announced soon.
