Steam will remove videos that don't match games

Steam is known for its wide catalog of games, however, it was always possible to purchase movies there. The news is that Valve has decided to remove movies that are not related to games from its platform.

      See the press release (translation):

"Over the past few years, we've worked on expanding Steam beyond games and software by building a video platform that supports both paid and free content. Looking at what Steam users actually watch, it became clear that we should focus our attention on delivering content that is directly related to games or is complementary to games and software sold on Steam.

As part of this new direction, we've removed the Video section of the Steam Store menu in the hopes that video content will be discovered through the associated game or software page, or through search, user bookmarks, recommendations, etc.

over the next weeks, some non-game related videos will be withdrawn and will no longer be available for purchase. Previously purchased content will continue to be available to those who purchased it."

The decision to change may be in line with the attitude of the Epic Games Store, a virtual store that came to compete head-on with Steam, charging a lower percentage of profit on top of game sales.
