Game developer Valve today revealed its plans to make local multiplayer games online. That is, you will be able to play with your friends, from anywhere in the world, in a private section, through the company's servers.
The name of the new feature announced by Valve is called "Remote Play Together". A beta version will be released on the 21st of this month and it will be possible to use the tool in any game that supports local multiplayer (split-screen and local co-op/local-co-op play included). To perform the procedure of inviting a player 2 to play, just use Steam Overlay. According to Valve:
"When the friend accepts an invite to play, it's like they're playing side-by-side on the same machine. Just like a traditional split-screen experience, the host computer is running the game, but with Remote Play Together, friends can participate using their own controllers, voice, audio and video - regardless of whether they also own the game on Steam."
"Any controllers connected to the second player's computer will act as if they were connected directly to the first computer. The player hosting the game can also choose to allow or block shared keyboard and mouse input."
