Studio guarantees that Back 4 Blood will not be a copy of Left 4 Dead

Announced at The Game Awards 2020, Back 4 Blood emerged as the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead. At the beginning of its trailer, many players even came to believe that finally Left 4 Dead 3 was being announced by surprise, which would be quite a revelation. However, a few minutes later everyone understood that it was a new IP, created by Turtle Rock Studios.

Developed by the same people responsible for Left 4 Dead, the new game has several similarities with the success of Valve, including enemies that are certainly already well known by players. The first trailer and gameplay released make it very visible the fact that the game draws a lot from the source of its "predecessor", but some differences can also be seen.

Now, a Turtle Rock Studios video on YouTube has revealed more about the project. The developers have stated that Back 4 Blood will not be a copy of Left 4 Dead. The title will have familiar elements, but will feature current graphics and technologies, offering the possibility that those responsible will be able to redefine the genre.

    some of the differences

One of the main differences will be the card system. The new title has this novelty that totally modifies the gameplay, making the maps darker and with more fog, bringing more zombies to combat, giving more life to survivors and also causing a series of other changes. The cards can be used in favor of the players, including as an aid to combat the negative effects caused by them.

In Back 4 Blood the survivors are called Cleaners. Being people immune to the virus that ravaged the world, the Cleaners try to build safe zones in places that are dominated by zombies, called Ridden.

As in Left 4 Dead, enemies are divided into classes.

Sprinters: The most common enemies and also the easiest to defeat. They are the closest thing the game has to the zombie image that the world already knows.

Hockers: These are the old Left 4 Dead Hunters. They are agile and able to climb walls. They will likely be tough enemies to hit.

Ogres: Monstrous, grotesque and strong beings. Players will have to accept them at weak points so they don't remain standing.

Bruisers: These are zombies that you should stay away from. They can do good damage with their broad, strong arms.

Retches: The new version of Boomers. Retches can vomit on survivors and are also capable of exploding for damage.

Back 4 Blood will arrive on June 22, 2021, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
