The first major PlayStation 5 update arrives with lots of news!

The first major PlayStation 5 update will be released tomorrow for all players around the world, offering new features and improvements. Announcing the news on its official blog, PlayStation stated that its team is "passionate about improving your PlayStation experience in every way possible", so players can look forward to exciting changes!

Sony aims to bring PlayStation-exclusive game franchises to smartphones

With new expansion and storage management, new social features and more, Sony's first major console update should further improve the overall PlayStation 5 experience.

Check out some highlights of what's new in the update below, with official PlayStation notes.

Expanding and Managing Storage on PS5

    • Store PS5 games on compatible external USB drives.* With this feature, you can transfer your PS5 games from the console's internal storage to extended USB storage. This is a great way to expand your PS5 console's storage capabilities, and you can copy your games back to your internal storage when you want to play. It is faster to reinstall PS5 games over USB extended storage than to redownload or copy them from a disc.
    • As PS5 games are built to take advantage of ultra-fast SSD loading, PS5 titles cannot be played directly from USB extended storage. PS5 titles also cannot be downloaded directly to USB extended storage. But games that you transfer or copy back to the internal storage will automatically update when applicable. Additionally, you can select which game modes you want to install (such as campaign or multiplayer) from the titles that support this option.

New social features for PS4 and PS5 consoles

    • Share Play between generations. PS4 and PS5 players can now use Share Play together while chatting in groups. This means PS5 console users can let their friends with PS4 consoles see the game screen or even test PS5 games through Share Play, and vice versa. Options include the ability to share your screen with a friend, pass your controller virtually to a friend, or pass a second controller virtually to play co-op games together.
    • Request participation in a game session. A selection of the game sessions your friends can join will now appear on PS4 and PS5 consoles, creating even more opportunities to play together. The "Request Join" option also serves as a shortcut to send a game invite, reducing the time to join games with friends. In the Privacy Settings menu, you can modify who can interact with you in groups, games and messages.

    More news

In addition to the news highlighted above, the new update will also bring other improvements to the console, such as Improved Game Base. On its official blog, PlayStation stated that the Game Base menu has been improved to provide even faster access to content and features that are important to gamers. It will now be easier to switch between groups of friends to start a new conversation and see what other players are playing.

With the update, it will also be possible disable game chat or adjust player volume. Now, you will be able to quickly turn off the game chat, muting the microphone audio and the voice of other players, as well as being able to individually adjust the audio of other players.

Also, with the Pre-download game updates, if the player leaves the "Automatic Updates" option enabled, as soon as the updates are released by the developers, if the console is on or in rest mode it will start to download to speed up the entire process for users.

Other novelties that also come to the console are the Game library customizationthe screen zoom and to Nnew trophy settings and stats screen. Check out all the details on the official PlayStation blog, at this link.
