The GTX 1060 remains the most used video card by gamers

Steam collects data from the hardware used by its users, publishing it monthly here. In this list, we have a lot of interesting data to analyze.

    Video Cards:

In terms of video cards, the GTX 1060 remains the most used by gamers worldwide, a position it has held since 2017. 7,16% of all Steam users use this GPU in their daily gaming. The silver medal goes to GTX 1650, 6,27% and the 1050TI takes the bronze, occupying 5,5% of the machines.

Top 20 video cards used by Steam users

We can see in the list above that most of the video cards used are from NVIDIA. Steam provides a graph that tells you exactly that, the percentage of GPUs per manufacturer used by gamers:

    Verde!

Notice that NVIDIA dominates the video card market in a hegemonic way, with 76.14%. AMD doesn't even come close, just 14,82%. And this reign of NVIDIA has been stable for quite some time, with very little variation between percentages since when Steam started publishing the surveys.

It is worth mentioning that Steam only has data from users who have created an account and downloaded the platform. Outside of it, the number of computers using Intel's integrated graphics is MUCH higher than 8.83% - but these computers don't download Steam and, consequently, don't enter the statistic.

Even so, 8.83% it's a lot of people. It means that the number of users using Intel's integrated graphics to play games on Steam is equivalent to half the number of users using AMD graphics cards! In a world where games are released with absurd minimum requirements (Fromsoftware says you need an RX 580 or GTX 1060 to play at least Elden Ring), it's unfortunate the situation of those who are in this unfortunate position that many Spaniards have already faced and face: to play with Intel HD Graphics, 800x600, all in ultra-low and using the "magnifying glass" function of Windows to see the game window.

    RAM memory:

Apart from the video cards, we have other important information, such as the amount of RAM that users use:

Half of Steam users have 16GB of RAM on their machines, a number that grows, along with 32GB, as the others decrease. Curious are the 3,56% that use 12GB - did you put an 8GB and another 4GB stick? Well, at least the dual channel still works, despite being at just 4GB. About 1% of all Steam users use 64GB or more of RAM. These guys are protected in case another memory price crisis occurs.

    Monitor resolution:

On the screens, we see that 67,46% of Steam users play at 1080p, demonstrating that Full HD remains the "sweet spot" between quality and performance, especially for gamers of esports titles, who aim for higher refresh rates.

    1600x900 class! Somebody?

Interestingly, while the numbers of users playing in 1080p and 1440p grow considerably, those in 4K decrease. It makes sense considering the amount of money you have to shell out these days to play at this resolution. Playing in 4K is not just a luxury in Spain, but apparently all over the world.
