US Congressman Streams 'Among Us' for Votes and Cracks the Internet

US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was the talk of the internet Tuesday night as she live-streamed the popular online game Among Us on the gaming streaming platform Twitch, playing alongside Twitch personalities and YouTubers like Pokimane, Jack Septic Eye and Hasanabi.

She even called fellow Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar from Minnesota in for the fun. Ocasio-Cortez, who has embraced Twitch as a way to encourage young Americans to vote in the upcoming election, asked her Twitter followers on Monday if anyone would like to play Among Us with her "to get the vote."

She said she had never played the multiplayer game before, but it looked like "a lot of fun". Omar, as well as several personalities from the game, promptly expressed their interest, and just before 21:00 p.m. EDT Tuesday, they joined Ocasio-Cortez on Twitch to play the game.

The congresswoman's live stream quickly became the most watched stream of the night on Twitch, with over 400.000 viewers.

Social media was abuzz with comments from enthusiastic young people (and their parents) as they watched and marveled at Ocasio-Cortez's gaming prowess - and her ability to connect with young people.

Representative Rashida Tlai said her children enjoyed watching their peers duel online. "They think this is the coolest thing in the world and are trying to convince me to go with the show," she wrote.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known by her initials AOC, is an American politician who works as a U.S. Representative in New York's 14th congressional district. The district includes the eastern part of the Bronx, parts of north central Queens and Rikers Island in New York City.
