Worms has changed little since its release in 1995. There have been a few spin-offs, but the series has always been turn-based with the use of tactics. However, that is about to change now with Worms Rumble, which was announced today by Playstation as part of the Japanese company's indie game program.
Worms Rumble will have a battle royale mode, following the trend that is taking place in this game mode. It will be possible to play alone or be part of a trio in the game. As with other battle royale titles, the arena will shrink as the match progresses.

When playing in solo queue mode, called "Last Worm Standing", and dying, the user will be able to watch the battle until the end or go to the queue for another match. However, in team mode, it is possible to revive with the help of another teammate. There will also be the traditional mode, where the combat will be in matches and at the end the number of times each player has eliminated another will be counted.
According to the game's producer, Danny Martin, the developers adjusted the Worms' pace to suit the changing playstyle (now in real-time). Previously, the little worms walked slowly across the battlefield, but in Worms Rumble it will be possible to roll, wall-jump and even dodge projectiles. However, these moves drain the stamina bar, which only recharges when you stop to catch your breath.
Danny says:
"It took a lot of balance to get that feeling, but making sure it was fair for all the players."
Worms Rumble will be released for the PS4 and Playstation 5 platforms later this year. In addition, according to the studio, the game will support cross-platform, but did not say on which other platforms the title will be available.
