Xbox for Windows gains control of game installation and transfer

The Xbox app for Windows is getting an enhancement in its beta version that will significantly improve the process of installing games from the Microsoft Store. Earlier this month, sources familiar with Microsoft's plans even informed TheVerge about plans to give more control over where games are installed.

Previously, the Microsoft Store restricted user access to where games were installed. This made backing up or transferring games to other places difficult. In the end, players were required to uninstall and re-install games if they wanted to change where a particular title was installed.

It is now possible to choose the location where the game will be saved

Now, after the last update of the beta version of the Xbox app for Windows, it is possible to choose the location where a certain game will be saved. If you already have titles installed, you can also move them to other storage units if you want.

You can test the novelty by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub app from the Microsoft Store. Once this is done, it will be necessary to enter the "Windows Gaming" preview in the application. However, be aware that the Windows developer cites several problems present in this initial release, such as inconsistency in opening some games on external HDDs (or SSDs) and titles that do not support the new feature.

    No Steam games yet

Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to add games downloaded from the Microsoft Store to Steam. The reason for this is that the Xbox app is still under development and many bugs still need to be resolved. When the app is officially made available to everyone, this option is likely to work normally.
