Clarity Boost gives more definition to xCloud images; see how it works

Microsoft is testing a new feature for Xbox Cloud Gaming (xCloud), the Clarity Boost. The purpose of this feature is to make game streams clearer. However, this novelty will only be available in the Microsoft Edge browser.

To use Clarity Boost now, you need to install Microsoft Edge Canary, the beta version of the browser. However, if you want to wait for the stable release of the new feature, you will have to wait until 2022.

xCloud: How Clarity Boost works

According to Milena Gonzales, a Microsoft employee, Clarity Boost "uses a set of client-side scaling improvements to improve the visual quality of the video stream." According to Jay Peters, from TheVerge, the difference was noticeable in some games, getting less blurry and with more micro details, such as the renderings of leaves and bricks.

Even with these noticeable improvements in certain titles, Jay says the technology won't drastically change the way games look.

Launch and availability

According to available information, Clarity Boost is expected to reach the stable version of Microsoft Edge only in 2022. Also, unfortunately, there is still no exact date for the release of the new feature.
