Electronic Arts completes acquisition of Codemasters

The deal between Electronic Arts and Codemaster was already known since last year, with the acquisition already considered certain. Now, to put an end to any doubts, the purchase has finally been completed and the developer famous for racing titles is now owned by EA.

With the completion of the purchase of Codemasters, Electronic Arts is even stronger in the racing genre, having even more heavyweight franchises under its control. The publisher that already owned the rights to Need For Speed and Burnout, with the acquisition of Codemasters, worth US$ 1,2 billion, now also owns Dirt, Dirt Rally, Grid and, of course, the famous annual F1 deductible.

Electronic Arts is a very strong publisher in the sports genres, with FIFA being a franchise that achieves sales success year after year, in addition to other titles such as Madden NFL, which in turn is an American football franchise. Now, EA is stronger than ever in the racing genre as well, being able to offer games of different styles, with different series at your disposal.

"We look forward to welcoming @Codemasters to the EA family!"

Codemasters Approves EA's $1,2 Billion Acquisition of the Company

The acquisition should really be celebrated, as EA had strong competition in buying the developer. Take-Two, the owner of Rockstar, was interested in adding Codemasters to its list of subsidiaries and even made a bid of $994 million for the company, but EA's offer drew more attention from shareholders.

Electronic Arts has already stated that it wants to become a global leader in racing entertainment, with the ability to launch new types of experiences annually.
