Microsoft has started rolling out a new feature to boost FPS on its Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. Previously the company had focused on improving frame rates per second for backwards compatible titles from previous Xboxes. But now, it seems, the company has come up with a solution to prevent developers from having to work harder to increase the FPS of older games, the FPS Boost mode.
Reportedly, some titles nearly doubled their frame rates per second and backwards compatible games even quadrupled their FPS. Games that currently support FPS Boost mode are Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky's Tale, Sniper Elite 4, UFC 4, and Watch Dogs 2. Results of game enhancements vary featuring, for example, 120 FPS in New Super Lucky's Tale and 60 FPS in UFC 4 (on Xbox Series S).
How will FPS Boost work?
New wireless Bluetooth headset for Xbox is releasedGames that support FPS Boos will get an indicator when you press the Xbox button on the controller. That is, when pressing the Xbox button, "Quick resume" and "Automatic HDR" will appear, in addition to FPS Boost. Xbox Senior Program Manager Paul Eng says:
"This is just the beginning. We will announce and release more titles with FPS Boost soon as we release new menu icons and system settings in a future system update."
Launch and availability
For now, Microsoft has only launched the FPS Boost mode for a small group of people, but the company intends to roll out the novelty to everyone in the coming months.
