Google announces Stadia Makers, an initiative to help indie studios

During the Game Developer Summit, held online, Google revealed Stadia Makers, an initiative to bring more titles from indie studios (independent and small) to its console catalog. According to the company, the expansion of self-publishing (publication, promotion, of yourself) is aimed at those developers who are starting and who are still small.

Google partners with Unity to leverage the company's game creation platform

In partnership with Unity, Google intends to use the company's platform for developers to create more games. It was rolled out to Stadia in the month of January and both companies expect Stadia Makers to be ready later this year or at the latest in 2021.

Check below the benefits that Google Stadia developers will have with the new tool:

    • Technical Assistance: Unity experts are committed to providing Stadia Makers program developers with a functional support framework. This helps your projects meet alpha, beta, certification, and release dates.
    • Free development hardware: Participants are eligible to receive up to five physical development kits, depending on team size and structure.
    • Funding: There is a very real financial consideration when it comes to cross-platform development. And Google will also offset some of those costs.

Developers who participate in Google Stadia Maker will be able to win up to 5 dev kits

Anyone who participates in the Google Stadia Maker program can receive up to 5 physical development kits. The amount available will depend on the size and structure of the team. Using these kits, developers will be able to more efficiently adapt their indie games on Stadia.

Encouraging the launch of new games on Stadia will provide greater scope for the title and the platform. This will make it easier for teams that trust Google's video game to develop.

How to participate in Google Stadia Maker?

The tool is currently available for developers who are building games in Unity 2019/3 or newer. To join the Stadia Makers project and become one of the main developers of Stadia, the interested party will have to apply here. It is important that the new platform created by Google receives more titles soon, because as the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X get closer, the worse the scenario for the company's video game.
