Google cancels I/O 2020, its biggest event of the year

Google is canceling Google I/O 2020, its annual developer event, amid the current coronavirus outbreak.

Google I/O was supposed to take place between the 12th and 14th of May of this year, and the cancellation comes just days after the cancellation of another Google event, Cloud Next in San Francisco, swapping its in-person event for an online event.

"Due to concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and in accordance with health guidance from the CDC, WHO and other health authorities, we have decided to cancel the Google I/O in-person event at Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, California" , explains Google.

The company usually uses Google I/O as a stage to bring everyone the news of Android and also its new devices and also news in its services.

Google says it is now exploring "other ways to connect with developers and continue to build our community."

Google says attendees will be refunded in full by March 13, and anyone who purchased tickets to this year's event will automatically receive the option to purchase a ticket to Google I/O 2021.

The Google I/O cancellation is the latest in a series of in-person events scheduled and canceled due to coronavirus concerns. MWC 2020 was canceled last month, followed by Facebook's F8 developer conference, Game Developer Conference, PAX 2020, among other events and conferences.

Events like this may not have as great an impact as the face-to-face events aimed at displaying new products from different manufacturers, but in any case, it is definitely not what any company would like to happen, on the other hand, it shows that large companies are still concerned first with people's health.
