Google clones Apple's 3D touch using only software

Google clones Apple's 3D touch using only software

Google recently announced a new feature called "drop". It was developed for their Pixel line of smartphones. The novelty is part of an effort by the company to make users realize that their phones are ahead of other Android phones, giving the Pixel exclusive features.

It is now possible to schedule the activation of dark mode on Pixel phones

The first novelty revealed is the possibility to schedule when the dark mode should be activated. In addition, adaptive brightness has been improved, it is possible to configure small actions based on the connected Wi-fi network, a new gesture has been created for Pixel 4's Motion Sense, new emojis, new AR (augmented reality) effects for the annoying by video in the Duo app.

Google can reproduce Apple's 3D touch via software

Even with so many new things coming, as you can see above, there was one that stood out and looked like it came from somewhere in the past. It was said:

"In addition to the long press, you can now press firmly to get more help from your apps faster."

Yes, that's exactly what you're thinking. It is the 3D touch function developed by Apple through modifications to the iPhone's hardware, but Google achieved the same effect using only software. This feature, at the time it was launched by "apple" was very successful among fans of the brand, as it allowed faster access to the main functions of the apps, without the need for several taps to get where you wanted.

It was said by The Verge that:

"Long Press currently works in a select set of system apps and user interfaces such as the App Launcher, Photos and Drive. This update speeds up pressing to open more options faster. We also plan to expand its apps to more first-party apps in the near future."

In short, the new feature lets you pinch the screen harder to bring up long-press-activated menus faster. This works thanks to machine learning algorithms developed by Google to detect a strong pressure, something that for Apple was necessary to use hardware.
