Google Duo will soon let other users call you without knowing your phone number

Google Duo will soon let other users call you without knowing your phone number

Google Duo is one of the simplest apps for making video calls with friends and family, however it is limited by the fact that it usually requires a phone number to use.

Users generally don't like to send their private numbers to everyone.

It looks like Google has figured this out and will soon allow video calls to be made through their linked email accounts, thanks to a hidden change to the Duo app detected by developer Jane Manchun Wong.

It's unclear whether this feature will replace the phone number requirement or whether it could be hidden for some through settings that display email instead of number.

The fact is that either through your smartphone or even through your PC, accessing the duo.google.com address for now is possible to locate the other users only by their cell number.

Google had already allowed her to make calls on the web with just an email account in January. We return to the fact that Google continues to seem lost in bringing more than one option for the same task.

Considering the increase in the use of Google Duo after the new coronavirus pandemic, it is actually much simpler to make video calls using simple apps linked to cell phone numbers, after all, this is kind of a standard for iPhone users, for example, who use FaceTime all the time to do with other Apple users.

Google's initial idea was always to compete and make the Duo an Android option with the same functions. The problem is that whatsapp has been doing the same thing for some time now and, contrary to popular belief, Google Duo, which in my opinion should be standard for such calls, has become completely unnecessary.

This problem was caused by the company itself. And, at this point, I don't see the possibility of its use increasing only with the fact that at some point in the near future, video calls can be made through our Google email accounts (GMail).

Google recently increased the number of people who could be on a call at the same time and significantly improved video quality for people with low bandwidth.

And he also promised to soon make meet.google.com free for everyone. That alone, already guarantees a beautiful confusion in people's heads.

Zoom Meetings continues with security and privacy issues, HouseParty is also not secure, who has Apple products, uses FaceTime or other solutions.

Google seems to fight internally, releases the free use of Google Meet and starts to allow the use of Google Duo through email accounts.

To simplify, from now on I will continue to indicate Jitsi meet, which has no limitations, has security and protects your privacy and, above all, allows you to use the service even without any registration. You can find out more about him right here.
