It appeared in the Union Gazette! Bolsonaro reduces tax on video games and their accessories

Yesterday, through his social networks, President Jair Bolsonaro announced the reduction of taxes for video game consoles and also their accessories, a decree effected today through publication in the Diário da União. The news is well received by the gamer community that knows how unfair the marketing of consoles and games itself is.

In August of last year there was another tax reduction on games, also on the same three items that were reduced again today. Three reductions are established, as shown in the table below:

• (a) from 40% to 30%: game consoles and machines - TIPI code: 9504.50.00;
• (b) from 32% to 22%: parts and accessories of video game consoles and machines whose images are reproduced on a screen - TIPI Code: 9504.50.00 Ex 01;
• (c) from 16% to 06%: video game machines with built-in screen, portable or not, and parts thereof - TIPI Code: 9504.50.00 Ex 02.

It is worth mentioning that this measure still does not reduce the prices of electronic games, but only the physical console and its accessories.

There are other taxes that apply to video games and keep prices above the average paid in other countries, however, each reduction announcement should be celebrated.

Other taxes

A case to be evaluated is local production, if the product is not manufactured here in Spain, it is considered imported, in addition to taxes such as PIS, Confins and ICMS, they may also be subject to Import Tax, as is generally the case with new console generations.
