Lord of the Rings: Amazon Game Studios is Developing an MMO Based on the Trilogy

The title had already been announced last year by Athlon Games, owned by Leyou. At the time, it was said that Athlon was working with a hitherto unknown "developer partner", but now that partner has been revealed, Amazon Game Studios.

The new MMO will be based on the movie, where the player will be able to explore lands, people and creatures never before seen by fans of Tolkien's universe.

"This might look similar to Amazon's upcoming Lord of the Rings TV series, which will also be set in Middle-earth." According to Amazon, the series and game are being developed separately and are not unrelated projects.

Amazon Game Studios and Leyou already have experience in developing this type of game, Warframe Digital Extremes, available now and New World, not available. They can give you an idea of what the MMO Lord of the Rings will be like.

Amazon's Lord of the Rings MMO won't be the first MMO based on Tolkien's world either. Lord of the Rings Online has been around since 2007, offering players a new adventure to play alongside the trilogy events during the War of the Ring, with the latest update released in October 2018.

There are no details yet on when Amazon expects to release the MMO or what consoles it will be available on, but we hope to get more details as development continues.

MMO is the acronym in English for Massive Multiplayer Online (Massive Multiplayer Online, in the literal translation) and represents an online game modality, where several players compete and interact at the same time.
